The xx are a London quartet, featuring the dual lead vocals of Romy Madley-Croft and Oliver Sim (who also play lead and bass guitar respectively), Baria Quereshi (keyboards and guitar) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC sampler).
All 19 years old, The xx are childhood friends who formed while attending the Elliot School – the south west London comp whose alumni also includes such acclaimed boundary-pushers as Burial, Four Tet and Hot Chip.
Bonding over a shared love of stripped back anti-folk and mid-90s R&B, The xx’s unique sound befits a wide range of influences that include everything from Aaliyaah to Cocorosie, Rhianna to The Cure, Missy Elliot to the Chromatics, The Kills to Ginuwine, The Pixies to Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake to Tracey & The Plastics.
These influences combine via beautiful, hushed vocal duets and a brilliantly inventive use of samplers and low-end frequencies to produce the stark, sweet melancholic pop of this debut single. Available on 7” vinyl, ‘Crystalised’ also features a cover of band favourite Aaliyah’s ‘Hot Like Fire’ on the b-side that further expands The xx’s hauntingly soulful sound. Both tracks are produced by the band themselves and engineered by Cocadisco’s Rodaidh McDonald.

lcd soundsystem
Founded in 2002 by downtown NYC music scene fixture and DFA label co-owner James Murphy, LCD Soundsystem has risen to international prominence as one of the most critically acclaimed live and recording acts currently in existence. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2005, which featured the underground classics “Losing My Edge” and “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House,” and received two Grammy nominations. Preceded by the 45:33 EP, the second LCD Soundsystem album Sound of Silver was named best album of 2007 by The Guardian, Uncut, the Independent and Les Inrockuptibles among others, and scored another Grammy nomination. The record featured the Uncut song of the year “North American Scum,” “Someone Great,” and “All My Friends”--which Time magazine ranked as #4 in its Best Songs of 2007 and Mojo named track of the year. In 2008, LCD Soundsystem contributed the track “Big Ideas” to the soundtrack of the hit movie 21. The band has since released the 45:33: The Remixes EP and a cover of Alan Vega’s “Bye Bye Bayou,” issued to commemorate Record Store Day 2009 and earning LCD its fifth NME single of the week. March 2010 will see the release of James Murphy’s original music for the feature film Greenberg, while finishing touches are currently being put on the third LCD Soundsystem record, due out later this year.

conan to host late show on tbs
Former "Tonight Show'"host Conan O'Brien will return to late night talk in November.
"I can't think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in," George Lopez said. "It's the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy."LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Ousted "Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien will return to late-night television in November with a show on cable channel TBS, the network said Monday.
O'Brien's talk show will air weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT, leading into "Lopez Tonight" which will shift to a midnight start, TBS said.
Negotiations for the deal began last week after Lopez called O'Brien to ask him to consider joining the network, TBS said.
"In three months I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I'm headed to basic cable," O'Brien said in a news release. "My plan is working perfectly."
The new show has not yet been given a name.
O'Brien has been off the air since January when NBC canceled Jay Leno's prime time hour after disappointing ratings led to an affiliate revolt. NBC's local stations suffered a drop in ratings for their 11 p.m. newscasts in the months that Leno's earlier show was a lead-in.
NBC paid O'Brien and his staff an estimated $40 million to clear the way for Leno to return to the "Tonight Show" host chair he handed off to O'Brien last year.
The settlement left O'Brien free to launch a competing show after September 1, 2010.
The ouster of O'Brien after just seven months on the show stirred his friends and fans -- dubbed Team CoCo -- to launch a variety of anti-NBC protests.
Leno recently told Joy Behar, host of HLN's "The Joy Behar Show," that he expected O'Brien would return to late-night television as a head-to-head competitor.
"I think Conan will come back, and he'll be strong and, you know, we'll all compete against one another," Leno said.
"It should be me against (David) Letterman, against Conan, against (Jimmy) Kimmel, and then you see who wins," he said, referring to all the other late-night comedians.
